We're excited to keep you in the loop on all things Frameline (with no spam - ever!)
Discover emerging talents and embrace an unparalleled community of festival-goers at the world’s largest celebration of queer media. Frameline pays tribute to LGBTQ+ experiences through pioneering documentaries, gripping features, delightful shorts, cinematic classics, engaging episodics, and more.
Frameline the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival unites global communities of movie lovers and filmmakers for 11 days of innovative and socially relevant queer film and media every June. Founded in 1977, Frameline is the longest-running, largest, and most widely recognized queer film exhibition event in the world. Each year at Frameline, we welcome guests from around the world — hosting an exciting roster of film talent to accompany and enhance the viewing experience.
In 2024, 32 countries were represented in the Frameline48 program. Among the 120 screenings over the Festival’s 11 days, there were 6 North American Premieres, 12 US Premieres, and 17 World Premieres. Additionally, we take pride in hosting the ‘Queer Premiere‘ of LGBTQ+ films that previously played non-queer-identified festivals like Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, SXSW, and Tribeca. With 15 Queer Premieres at Frameline48, we can assure you that a queer Festival experience with a queer audience (especially ones as enthusiastic and supportive as ours!) just hits different.
While Frameline always prides itself on presenting the latest and greatest in LGBTQ+ film and media, Frameline48 also made room for a striking collection of retrospective titles, mixing recently restored queer classics like Go Fish and That Boy with newly-uncovered treasures like Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers and Pumping Iron II: The Women, ripe for discovery.
Frameline offers an enriching experience beyond the films themselves, with introductions and post-screening Q&As with celebrated directors, big name actors, and up-and-coming stars. At Frameline48, we were thrilled to have a number of notable guests join us, including Rita Moreno, Brian J. Smith, Zackary Drucker, Lena Waithe, Marco Pigossi, Guinevere Turner, Juan Pablo Di Pace, Alok, Alex Hedison, Luenell, Rose Troche, Lady Camden, Peter Berlin, Luke Gilford, and Linda Perry to name a few. Browse through our Flickr albums for a glance at our VIP guest lists of Festivals past and a little taste of the events, screenings, parties, panels, and performances we put on every June in San Francisco.
As a community event with an annual attendance of more than 63,000 (89,000 virtual attendance in 2020), the Festival is the most prominent and well-attended LGBTQ+ arts program in the Bay Area. In 2023, Frameline was ranked #8 in USA Today‘s Readers Choice poll of the 10 Best Film Festivals in the United States. In 2024, Frameline made MovieMaker’s annual list of 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee and 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World. Frameline is a BAFTA Qualifying Festival and one of the partner festivals for the Iris Prize in the United Kingdom.
