Subject of the film: see title. Just that the "acting" takes place beyond the screen. The camera concentrates solely on the face of a young man, who, supposedly, is enjoying himself. The screen becomes — as Jonas Mekas has put it once — the mirror for the viewer. A film about sublimated sexuality. Also of interest: the light/shadow effects.
My Hustler consists of two extended conversations, first as a Fire Island host (the outrageously camp Ed Hood) contemplates the recumbent figure of the beach Adonis (Paul America) he has hired for the weekend, and then as the newcomer learns a few tricks of the trade from an older colleague (Joe Campbell).
