Young Djamel (Yasmine Belmadi), born of an Arab mother, never knew his French father. Now his mother is dead, and Djamel sets out from Paris to look for his fortune elsewhere, leaving his grandmother and Arab girlfriend behind. When he finds work at a factory in Grenoble and starts dating a co-worker, Isabelle (Valérie Donzelli), Djamel appears to be comfortably set. But why is he so curious about his boss, the tor mented Monsieur Chamblasse (Bernard Verly)? And why is he so fascinated by the boss's strikingly handsome son (Sébastien Charles), who happens to be gay and very much in the closet? Gradually we realize Djamel's secret agenda, which moves to a resolution he never expected.
Gifts captures the Christmas angst of a young man trapped with his relatives over the holidays, cut off from the one person he most needs to see.
