Deep in the Hundred Acre Wood of A.A. Milne lore, where birds sing happily and brooks babble gently, Christopher Robin’s old gang of buddies is still living the life idyllic — until a strange sound trumpeting through the trees shakes them from their morning slumber. When giant footprints also appear, everyone knows there’s just one thing it could be…a Heffalump!

At excited young Roo’s urging, a Great Heffalump Expedition into Heffalump Hollow is undertaken to capture the menacing creature, but poor Roo is told it’s too dangerous for him to go along. Crestfallen, he ventures out on his own, rope and resolve at the ready. Meanwhile, the bumbling posse of clueless Pooh, agitated Rabbit, panicky Piglet, overeager Tigger and poor beast of burden Eeyore set elaborate traps and fear the worst.

When Roo encounters young Heffridge Trumpler Brompet Heffalump, IV (but you can call him Lumpy), he’s surprised to discover that, contrary to the terrifying tales his friends have been telling him, Heffalumps are actually quite fun and friendly — and “just like us” (Lumpy likes honey too!). Roo is equally surprised to find that his chubby purple pal is afraid of everyone Roo knows and loves. Bounding through misadventures and misconceptions, the two youngsters show Pooh and the gang that they’re really not so different after all.

With original songs by Carly Simon and the voice of Brenda Blethyn as Mama Heffalump, this charming new Pooh parable is humorous and heartwarming entertainment for the whole family. — JOANNE PARSONT
