When childhood sweethearts Greg and Molly leave a quiet corner of America for the Big Apple, they expect life to get more interesting. But when they meet play-girl Bridget and her best friend Trip, they get a lot more than they bargained for.

The four meet by chance at a bar called The Four-Faced Liar in Greenwich Village, where the sparks start to fly almost immediately between Bridget and Molly. Their blossoming friendship drips with as much sexual tension as literary allusion (then again, Wuthering Heights analogies would make anyone hot… right?). As their flirting grows more intense, a fight with Greg sends Molly fleeing to crash with Bridget for a few days.

Torn between vanilla Greg and push-me-up-against-a-wall Bridget, Molly is forced to make a choice. This story of life and love among twenty-somethings in the Big Apple focuses on the ladies’ affair, but Bridget’s best friend Trip has his own struggles with love.

Playwright Marja-Lewis Ryan adapted her play for the film, which she co-produces and in which she acts as Bridget. The Four-Faced Liar was an official Slamdance submission, due in part to solid, well-crafted dialogue. Thankfully, up-and-comers Daniel Carlisle (Greg), Todd Kubrak (Trip) and Emily Peck (Molly) are able to steer clear of trite stereotypes and deliver deeper characters than many coming-of-age films out there. Striking cinematography and art direction bring New York City’s urban landscapes to life as a lush backdrop for secret love.
