We're excited to keep you in the loop on all things Frameline (with no spam - ever!)
For the past three decades, Strand Releasing has consistently brought the brightest and boldest in world, independent, documentary, and (especially) queer cinema to big and small screens across America. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this pioneering distributor (a company with deep ties to San Francisco), a veritable dream roster of over 30 filmmakers crafted new short works, each of them shot on an iPhone.
Within this diverse and dynamic collection produced by Strand’s founders Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans and actor-director Connor Jessup (Closet Monster, Frameline40), you’ll find bewitching offerings from several Frameline faves, including a bubbly, rapid fire montage of queer romantic daydreams from Daniel Ribeiro (The Way He Looks, Frameline38); a mini film essay from Jenni Olson; a surreal, shape-shifting self-portrait by Cindy Sherman; a video intro to a new cinema craze by “Lars Von Queer,” directed and starring John Waters; a pair of tributes to queer iconoclasts Jacques Nolot and Andy Warhol from Ira Sachs and Bruce LaBruce respectively; a sing-a-long musical about “the modern homosexual” with Drew “Chlo Sevigny” Droege by Tommy O’Haver (Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss); reflexive video diaries of an aspiring screenwriter from Rose Troche (Go Fish, Frameline18); startling snapshots of a Sundance festival-goer from Gregg Araki; cheeky sketches of an enthusiastic selfie-taker by Christophe Honoré (Sorry Angel); Hitchcockian musings at the Palace of Fine Arts from Lynn Hershman Leeson (Teknolust); and a kaleidoscopic ovation from Isaac Julien (Looking for Langston) to close out the program.
30/30 Vision also features stellar offerings from Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Tropical Malady, Frameline29), João Pedro Rodrigues (The Ornithologist), Athina Rachel Tsangari (Trigonometry), Fatih Akin (In the Fade), Catherine Breillat (Fat Girl), Andrew Ahn (Spa Night, Frameline40), Karim Aïnouz (Invisible Life), and Alain Guiraudie (Stranger by the Lake), among others.
