Brooding young businessman Hamish (the intense and handsome Cosmo Jarvis) has returned from England to a tiny windswept Irish village ostensibly to get rid of an old family property. But a sudden turn of events throws him into a fraught and strangely hypnotic connection to Evan (Rhys Mannion), a free-spirited local teenage boy. As their tentative friendship unfolds, Hamish begins to piece together fragments of his own connection to the tight-knit village, forcing him to reckon not only with a past that has been kept from him, but parts of himself he would sooner not face.
Moody and gorgeously shot, It Is in Us All marks the stunning feature debut of Antonia Campbell-Hughes, who leans into the ancient landscape and deep human culture of Ireland as potent counterweights to Hamish’s own materialism and that of his emotionally distant father (Claes Bang, The Square). This gripping drama won Special Jury Recognition for Extraordinary Cinematic Vision at this year’s SXSW Festival.
