Winner of the Teddy Award at the Berlinale, All the Colours of the World Are Between Black and White will be the second film to receive Frameline’s Out in the Silence Award, which is given to an outstanding film project that highlights brave acts of LGBTQ+ visibility in places where such acts are not common. Join us as we present the award to Nigerian filmmaker Babatunde Apalowo at the Castro Theatre.
In this astounding feature debut, two young men who feel a powerful connection with one another come up against Nigerian societal strictures. Bambino (Tope Tedela) is a delivery driver, settled into his solitary life and small apartment. His new friend Bawa (Riyo David, Walking with Shadows, Frameline45) runs a betting shop, but takes photographs around Lagos as a hobby. One beautiful afternoon, Bambino accompanies him on one of his sojourns, and a deep, palpable bond emerges between the two men. Living in a country where homosexuality is illegal, the men dance around their feelings and each other. With a clear vision, the film movingly demonstrates the difficulties of expressing love in places where homosexuality remains taboo.
