My Old Ass

Directed by Megan Park2024USA89 mins

After taking mushrooms on a camping trip, quick-witted 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella) crosses paths with her 39-year-old self (the always alluring Aubrey Plaza) in the wilderness. What playfully begins as an examination of how the years have treated her body (well, her ass mostly) becomes a queer youth’s exploration of the expansiveness of her Bisexuality and ends with an ominous instruction from Elliott the elder: "Don't fall in love."

Spending the summer on her family's cranberry farm before being whisked away to the big city for college, Elliott approaches the advice from her old ass with the glib disinterest of someone running out the days before her life is scheduled to truly begin... but family revelations and romantic opportunities — both new and old — add an unplanned gravity to the weeks leading up to the adult freedom she's been pining so hard for. Named one of Variety's 10 Directors to Watch in 2022, actor-turned-filmmaker Megan Park follows her award-winning 2021 feature The Fallout with this funny, insightful, and unexpectedly moving twist on the coming-of-age film that won over audiences at Sundance this year.
