Twice a Woman

Directed by George Sluizer1979Netherlands110 mins

Twice a Woman, directed by George Sluizer (The Vanishing), is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by Harry Mulisch. It tells the story of a strained lesbian affair in Amsterdam. The international cast of stars includes Anthony Perkins (Psycho) and Bibi Andersson (Wild Strawberries).   Forty-year-old Laura lives in Amsterdam, surrounded by books and treasures from the museum where she works. One day she falls in love, to her surprise, with Sylvia, twenty years younger. Their relationship blossoms, until Sylvia leaves her for Alfred, Laura’s former husband. To get pregnant, she explains, when she resurfaces some months later. The evening the women are reunited, Alfred suddenly turns up.
