Frameline47: San Francisco LGBTQ+ Film Festival

Frameline47 is shaping up into yet another can’t-miss Festival. To serve our community better, we’re shifting our Festival dates one day earlier, with Opening Night on Wednesday June 14 and finishing on Saturday June 24, delivering the full 11-day cinema experience that you love while wrapping up prior to San Francisco’s iconic Pride Sunday. We’ll still have all the usual sparkle that Frameline is known for: the biggest and best Opening Night party around, and a Pride Kickoff party at Oasis featuring a sensational performance by drag superstar Alaska for the film God Save the Queens.

We will also be heading back to the magical Castro Theatre where we will show 50 spectacular films with numerous special guests during the 11 days of Frameline47. To secure a seat in this storied space, we invite Frameline Members to snag their Castro Passes, which are on sale now. We’re proud to be celebrating San Francisco’s neighborhood theaters this year with special event screenings at the Vogue, 4 Star, and Balboa Theatres. And we’re pleased to be returning to the Roxie Theater as well as the New Parkway Theater, our trusty neighbor to the east. Those who plan to enjoy Frameline virtually can rest assured that our national Streaming Encore (June 24-July 2), longer than ever, will enable on-demand access to many of the same dazzling works soon to be in-cinema.

To get you excited here are a handful of confirmed films for Frameline47. Starting with the big one, our Opening Night film will be Fairyland, produced by Sofia Coppola and directed by Andrew Durham. This is a big-screen adaption of Alysia Abbot’s memoir and tells the story of a young girl growing up in San Francisco with her gay dad in the 1970s and 80s. This delightful film recently debuted at Sundance and beautifully explores our city’s queer history. This is a must-attend event for those who love local queer cinema.

Another big, confirmed film is It’s Only Life After All, directed by Alexandria Bonbach, which is a fun and intimate documentary on the Indigo Girls (keep your eyes peeled for more Indigo Girls news on our launch day). We will screen Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed, a powerful HBO-produced documentary on the legendary actor, directed by Stephen Kijak, who also directed the Frameline43 sell-out Sid & Judy. And Frameline Distribution and Programming are excited to premiere our latest restoration project, Stephen Winter’s 1996 audacious satire Chocolate Babies, fully restored by Frameline to its near-30-year glory.

See you in the cinema!
