We're excited to keep you in the loop on all things Frameline (with no spam - ever!)
On June 22, 1981, Frameline began its lengthy history with The Castro Theatre. As the Opening Night film at Frameline5, Greetings from Washington, D.C. made its world premiere as Frameline’s first ever Castro Theatre screening. A collaborative effort between some of queer cinema’s juggernauts — including future Oscar winner Rob Epstein (The Times of Harvey Milk, Frameline9), Frances Reid (Long Night's Journey Into Day), Greta Schiller (Before Stonewall, Frameline9), Lucy Winer (Rate It X), Jan Oxenberg (Home Movie, Frameline20), and the legendary Barbara Hammer — _Greetings from Washington, D.C. _was a 30-minute documentary on the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1979, largely unseen until its restoration last year. In tribute to Frameline's long history of queer film at the Castro Theatre, we’re launching Frameline47 with a free screening of the restoration of Greetings from Washington, D.C. alongside a newly restored Frameline Distribution treasure: Stephen Cummins’ Resonance (1991).
Greetings from Washington, D.C. was digitally restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive in conjunction with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project. Laboratory services provided by Metropolis Post, Audio Mechanics. Special thanks to Lucy Winer, Francis Reid, Rob Epstein, Debra Zimmerman, Dennis Doros.
For Frameline47’s first official screening, we’re returning with brand new restorations of a pair of indispensable shorts that have played significant roles in the history of the Festival and the Frameline Distribution catalogue.
