We're excited to keep you in the loop on all things Frameline (with no spam - ever!)
In tribute to Frameline's long history of queer film at the Castro Theatre, we’re launching Frameline47 with the first film we ever played at our historic venue back in 1981, newly restored by: Greetings from Washington, D.C., a doc about the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Restoration by the UCLA Film & Television Archive in conjunction with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.
It will also be the first film screening at Frameline47 as we open the Castro Theatre doors early, prior to the Opening Night film, and present this double-bill of restored cinema.
Also included is one of the earliest and most popular Frameline Distribution films, Stephen Cummins’ Resonance, also newly restored and remastered by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.

A collaborative effort between some of queer cinema’s juggernauts — including future Oscar winner Rob Epstein, Frances Reid, Greta Schiller, Lucy Winer, Jan Oxenberg, and Barbara Hammer — captures the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1979, largely unseen until its restoration last year.
A digital remastering of this 1991 award-winning Australian queer short film. Beginning with a gay bashing in the backstreets of Sydney, this award-winning film uses gesture, dance and interior monologue to explore the repercussions of this act of violence.
