Planning for Frameline44 was brought to a halt with the arrival of COVID-19. Frameline was postponed to September and in the meantime the organization presented the first-ever Pride Showcase, a (mostly) virtual festival that continued the Festival’s unbroken tradition of celebrating in June and marked the 50th anniversary of San Francisco Pride.
The Frameline44 Pride Showcase included 13 world premieres and attracted some 35,000 attendees featured such titles as Isabel Sandoval’s Lingua Franca, Jen Rainin & Rivkah Beth Medow’s Ahead of the Curve (as a Drive-In event as well as streaming), Pablo Larraín’s Ema, David France’s Welcome to Chechnya, Ray Yeung’s Twilight’s Kiss, and Olivia Peace’s Tahara.
Frameline44 also included 7 films that screened as part of the AIDS2020 conference that was held virtually but intended to be in San Francisco and Oakland in July 2020.
